Even if you look after your whips with the greatest care, you will usually need to replace some parts of your whip at some time in it's life. Crackers and falls are both naturally wearing, replaceable parts. Crackers will come off from time to time and a fall will shorten with many cracker replacements. Without a cracker the fall will wear down so don't crack a whip without one. It is much easier and cheaper to replace a cracker than it is a whole fall.

Red hide or White hide falls: made of the best quality hide. Tapered, greased and bevelled ready to put straight on your whip.

Nylon Crackers: made from black nylon twisted cord. Durable, high twist available singly or by the dozen.

Ever had the yen to have a go at making a whip yourself but never had the materials or equipment needed? Then a whip kit might just be the go. Everything you need to make a red hide stock whip with a half plait handle, right down to the tacks, plaiting grease and even a lacing needle for the Turk's head knot. ... Repairs ...

We are often asked if we can repair a broken whip, and although we can't work miracles, it is often possible to refurbish an old whip. Replacement of keepers, falls and missing knots are fairly common repairs, but occasionally we are asked to do some more intricate work. As long as the condition and strength of the leather in the whip strands is good, we are able to repair most damage. Contact us to discuss your own whip repairs.

The leather in the thong was beyond saving, with several breaks in the plaiting, missing loop and goose quill the only option was to make a completely new thong for the whip. We sent home a refurbished bow top whip fit for a driving turnout class again.
